Core Values: Students
- Spiritual: we seek to win to Christ those who are uncommitted and to teach and encourage believers to bring honor to God. This objective comprises all others. Our objective is that students are:
- To love God and worship Him in action, faith and heart (Mk 12:30,Ro 12:1, Heb 11:6).
- To know that the Bible is truly the unique Word of God (2 Tim 3:16).
- To know and hold as true each of the Christian doctrines that form Horizon Christian Schools’ Statement of Faith (Tit 2:1).
- To confess a personal commitment to Christ as Lord (Ro 10:9).
- To obey God at the expense of immediate pleasure or gratification (Ro 13:14).
- To actively participate in achieving the Great Commission of “making disciples” (Matt 28:19-20).
- To grow in Christ by practicing discernment (Heb 5:14).
- To serve others so as to attain the full measure of Christ (Eph 4:11-13).
- To trust in the truth of God’s Word (Eph 4:14-15).
- To develop a well articulated and balanced Christian worldview (2 Pet 1:3).
- To know and understand God’s truth (Ps 1:1-3; 119:105)
- To be involved in the greater Christian community (Heb 10:25).
- To have a commitment to God that enables a stand against the onslaughts of the World (Eph 6:11).
- Intellectual: we provide an academic climate conducive to learning and the knowledge and skills needed for meaningful participation in society as an adult, and we nurture competency in continued learning, communication and informed decision making. Our objective is that students are:
- To realize their academic potential.
- To be effective in written and oral communication.
- To have the knowledge and skills to be a life-long learners.
- To be critical thinkers.
- To be informed participants in the democratic republic of the United States.
- To be aware of the diversity of ideas that is a part of our culture and to be able to defend their own ideas and understanding of truth.
- To hold the arts, humanities and sciences as equally important expressions of human creativity.
- To be adept with both independent and cooperative working skills.
- To pursue areas of personal interest and to develop their God-given talents and creative skills (2 Tim 2:15).
- To understand a God-centered view of the issues of human existence and how current events reflect God’s plan for mankind and for the world (Prov 9:10).
- To have an understanding of and confidence in the reality of God’s call on their life (Eph 2:10).
- Social/Emotional: to provide students with the opportunity for growth in the social skills and emotional resilience required for effective interaction in today’s society, and to enable students to comprehend and appreciate the privileges and responsibilities of living in a free society. Our objective is that students are:
- To accept him/herself as a unique produce of God’s gracious nature, omniscience and power (Ps 139:13-16).
- To respect and love every other person (Ro 13:8; Phil 2:3).
- To be effective contributing members of society.
- To show godly relational behavior toward others (1 Jn 1:7).
- To exercise God-pleasing moral behavior in all walks of life (Heb 13:4).
- To exercise godly behavior in all fiscal matters.
- To use time wisely (Matt 12:26; Eph 5:15-16).
- To maintain a godly attitude toward work (2Thes 3:10-13).
- To reconcile personal anger, frustration and disappointment by seeking God’s grace and mercy.
- Cultural: to promote appreciation for and creativity in the arts, and to encourage students to understand cultural patterns different from their own. Our objective is that students are:
- To understand cultural differences that are the basis for conflict with the objective of establishing peace where conflict exists (Ro 12:18).
- To know many of the contributions made by other cultures of the world to the fields of music, art, drama, literature, technical science and other expressions of creative human endeavor.
- To accept human creativity as an expression of the nature of God in whose image humans were created (Gen 1:27).
- Physical: to teach about and encourage activities and habits that will promote a healthy lifestyle. Our objective is that students are:
- To maintain physical fitness, good eating habits and avoidance of activities that are unhealthy.
- To participate in competitive sports and/or activities.
- To express cooperation and contribute to teamwork in sports and activities.
- To participate in recreational activities that enhance life-long physical and mental health.
