Vice Principal

George Crace

George Crace

Mr. Crace, or "Coach" as he is often called by the students at Horizon Christian, has been an educator for over 35 years having earned his Bachelors Degree in 1972 when he graduated from Harvard University. He then attended Stanford University graduating with a Master's of Education degree in 1973. He was the founding principal of Horizon Christian High School and served in that role from February 2006 through the end of January 2011. During his five years as principal of Horizon Christian, Mr. Crace sought to develop a culture of caring for each and every student. He would often us the term "Educare" in addition to educate. The goal of his administration was to make sure that each student would experience acceptance and affirmation in addition to academic achievement. The difference between "acceptance based performance" and "performance based acceptance" is dramatic, and therefore Mr. Crace presented his staff and students the challenge of following the motto: "A Champion's Heart is a Christ-like Heart".

Mr. Crace still believes to this day that a Christ-like heart would model the sacrificial love that Jesus Christ showed in laying down His life for each and every one of us. A Champion pays the price of sacrifice knowing that giving yourself to help build God's kingdom and serving others is our ultimate call in life. After serving as principal, Mr. Crace remains at Horizon as Vice-Principal for student services where he assists students with college readiness and career exploration. He is in charge of guidence and counseling for Horizon's 9th through 12th graders.

Mr. Crace has lived in the Portland area since 1978 serving on the staffs of David Douglas High School, West Linn High School, and Wilsonville High School prior to coming to Horizon Christian. He also served as assistant football coach at Willamette University during the fall of 1984 and 1985. He has been a teacher, counselor, coach and administrator. The Oregon Athletic Coaches Association honored him as the "Oregon Coach of the Year" from among all fall, winter and spring sports at the 3A level in 2005. He also received the Greater Portland Fellowship of Christian Athletes "Coach of Honor" award in 2005. In the fall of 2004, Coach Crace led his Wilsonville High School varsity football team to the OSAA State Championship posting a perfect 13-0 record. During his last three years at Wilsonville, his football teams were 33-5 winning two league championships and making two state championship appearances.
